Before yesterday I had no idea what the lead guitarist of Band of Horses was called, and even less of a clue that he was a pretty damn fine singer-songwriter on his own, but that's just the way it is. Anyway, Tyler Ramsey is usually the lead guitarist of indie rock giants Band of Horses, a band that I'm hardly a big fan of, but after checking out the title track from his upcoming lp The Valley Wind on a whim I'm very impressed.
"The Valley Wind" sounds pretty much like a mix of Neil Young's quieter moments and Songs From A Blue Guitar-era Red House Painters or Mark Kozelek's work with Sun Kil Moon - in short it's really good. Been following Tyler Ramsey since the "Tyler Ramsey Trio" days. He is an amazing writer, guitar artist with a really addictive voice. Can't wait for the new stuff!
