Hot Water Music frontman Chuck Ragan is set to release his third solo full-length, titled Covering Ground, on September 13 via SideOneDummy Records, and he has now shared a first track from the album. The track in question is track two, "Nomad By Fate", which is downloadable below in exchange for your e-mail address. Check out the album cover for Covering Ground above and the tracklist below the mp3-widget.
Chuck Ragan will join Dropkick Murphys for a couple of US tour dates during the first half of September before heading to Europe with The Revival Tour in late September/early October, which also includes The Gaslight Anthem's Brian Fallon plus Dan Andriano and Dave Hause (full tour dates here).
Depending on what part of the music world you're from you'll either know Tommy Stinson as the bass player from the best band of the '80s - The Replacements, or as the bassist of Axl Rose's current incarnation of Guns N' Roses (for more than ten year now) or maybe not at all. Most probably haven't heard Stinson's work outside of those two bands though which is a shame, especially since his first post-Replacements project Bash & Pop ranks as one of the most underrated bands of the '90s.
Earlier this year Vivian Girls released their third album, Share The Joy, and tonight they're playing live here in Stockholm at Debaser Slussen. A couple of days ago they released an '80s-looking video for their latest single, the '60s girl-group styled "Take It As It Comes". Watch the video below, and if you're in Stockholm tonight, head over to Debaser Slussen to catch the gig - it's free.
A couple of days ago I posted an mp3 of "West Side Street" by The Deep Dark Woods, taken from their upcoming album The Place I Left Behind. The Place I Left Behind will be released by Six Shooter Records on August 2 but you can listen to the entire album below right now, thanks to exclaim.ca.
Mastodon will release their new album The Hunter on September 27 via Reprise Records and you can now listen to "Black Tongue", the first track from the album to be released. The track is set to images of AJ Fosik creating the sculpture that makes up the album cover of The Hunter, see above. Watch the video and listen to "Black Tongue" below.
Laura Marling is releasing her third record, A Creature I Don't Know, on September 13 via Virgin Records and last night a first track, "Sophia", from the album premiered on Zane Lowe's radio show. Thanks to Listen Before You Buy and One Thirty BPM we've got a radio rip of the track for you below, and you'd do well to give it a listen. I've been excited about this album for quite some time now, considering the quality of her previous releases, and "Sophia" is just as good as I could've hoped for. Listen to it below.
As we've previously reported cult singer-songwriter Richard Buckner is set to release his ninth studio album, Our Blood, on August 2 via Merge Records but you can stream the full album already via NPR. Our Blood is Buckner's third studio album on Merge (after 2004's Dents And Shells and 2006's Meadow) and I've just finished my first listen to the album and it's definitely impressive. If you're unfamiliar with Buckner's work the closest references I could give soundwise would be folk singer-songwriter stuff in the Bill Callahan vein - and it's really good. Head over to NPR to give it a listen right now.
As we've previously reported Noel Gallagher is set to release his debut solo album on October 17/18 via his own Sour Mash Records, and today he premiered the video for the first single from the album - track number four; "The Death Of You And Me". The album will be self-titled with his band Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds and it was produced by Noel himself and Dave Sardy (who helmed Oasis' two final albums).
"The Death Of You And Me" will be released as a single on August 21 with the non-album b-side "The Good Rebel", and you can watch the video below. Personally I think it sounds really good.
