MP3: Howlin Rain - "Phantom In The Valley"


Oakland, California psychedelic rock band Howlin Rain have announced the release of their third full-length, The Russian Wilds, which is scheduled for a release on Valentine's Day, that's February 14 if you somehow didn't know that. The Russian Wilds is the follow-up to their 2008 record Magnificent Fiend and last year's The Good Life EP and it sees Isaiah Mitchell of Earthless join the band as a full time member.

Noel Gallagher's solo debut record was released a couple of weeks ago and last night he visited Late Show with David Letterman with his band the High Flying Birds to perform his single "If I Had A Gun" live. Watch the performance below.

Sleepy Sun sign to The End Records, new album in April


San Franciscan psychedelic rockers Sleepy Sun announced that they've signed to The End Records for the release of their upcoming third album, following 2010's Fever, yesterday. The album is as-of-now still untitled and it's now even recorded yet - the band will be heading into the studio at Rancho De La Luna in Joshua Tree, CA in December with an April release intended for the record.

"Lonely Boy", The Black Keys' lead single for their upcoming album El Camino, was released a couple of weeks ago and on November 25 it'll get a proper physical release as part of Record Store Day, with the b-side "Run Right Back". We've now got a stream of a radio rip of "Run Right Back" thanks to One Thirty BPM and Listen Before You Buy so you can check out the track below.

Sharon Van Etten announce new album, Tramp


I've been a fan of Sharon Van Etten since seeing her open for The National the past Spring and she's now finally announced the release of her third lp. The album will be called Tramp and it'll be released on February 7, 2012 via Jagjaguwar and it was recorded with The National's Aaron Dessner and features appearances from Dessner, Matt Barrick of The Walkmen, Zach Condon of Beirut, Jenn Wasner of Wye Oak and Julianna Barwick. Listen: Fanzine - "My Stupid Brain"


Almost two weeks ago we posted the video for London indie rockers Fanzine's "Roman Holiday", and on Monday the 7" single for "Roman Holiday" was releaed by Fat Possum. The single is actually a double A-side with "My Stupid Brain" brain being the "other" track, and yesterday Fanzine were kind enough to make the it available through their Soundcloud.

Listen: Girls - "Lawrence"


Girls are releasing a new limited stand-alone single with the song "Lawrence", only months after their excellent Father, Son, Holy Ghost album. The 7" single will be in the shape of a heart and it'll be released on December 6, but you can stream the track already. It's quite good, but not really worthy of inclusion on the album - listen for yourselves below and read the story behind the song here.

Mark Lanegan Band announce new lp, due February 6



Former Screaming Trees frontman and Queens of the Stone Age member Mark Lanegan is releasing Blues Funeral, his first solo studio record since 2004, under the name the Mark Lanegan Band as he did with his last couple of solo releases. It's his first solo record since 2004's Bubblegum and it was recorded by Alain Johannes, who also performs on the album together with drummer Jack Irons.

Blues Funeral features guest appearances from Josh Homme and Greg Dulli among others and it will be released by 4AD on February 6, 2012, and to coincide with the release Lanegan will be touring Europe between February 28 and April 2 (full tour dates below).

Korallreven's debut full-length An Album by Korallreven is set for release next Tuesday on Acéphale, but you can now finally stream the complete album. Korallreven has released several singles preceding the album release and they've gotten an insane amount of attention, being the most blogged about artist on Hype Machine several times now, and for once it's actually deserved - An Album by Korallreven is one of the finest albums you'll hear this year. Video: My Morning Jacket perform "First Light" & "You Wanna Freak Out" on Jools Holland


Earlier this week My Morning Jacket stopped by Later...with Jools Holland to perform "Holdin' On To Black Metal", taken from their new album Circuital, and as part of the lengthened Jools Holland episode on Friday night we got videos of the band performing two more songs; "First Light" and "You Wanna Freak Out". The performances prove that the band is one of the very finest live acts around these days, even making lesser album tracks into something really special when performing live. Video: Bleached perform "Searching Through The Past" on The Daily Habit 1/11



Los Angeles garage pop duo Bleached stopped by Fuel TV's The Daily Habit on Tuesday to perform their latest single "Searching Through The Past". The "Searching Through The Past" 7" will be released via Suicide Squeeze on December 6, but you can get your very own mp3 of it if you head over here. Video: Icona Pop - "Manners" (PSL Session)


Swedish electropop duo Icona Pop just released one of the strongest releases I've heard this year in the Nights Like This EP and in late October they stopped by Swedish tv-show PSL to record a video session, performing the track "Manners" from the ep. "Manners" was co-written with Robyn-producer Patrik Berger and it is arguably the strongest track on the ep. Check out the video below, and listen to the studio version of the track by using the Soundcloud player.
