MP3: Heartless Bastards - "Parted Ways"

Garage rockers the Heartless Bastards are set to release their fourth full-length on February 14 via Partisan Records, instead of Fat Possum who released their first three albums. The album is called Arrow and the band released a first track from the album yesterday in the form of "Parted Ways", a rootsy garage rock track with a distinct classic rock feel.

Download: Okkervil River - Golden Opportunities 2 [mixtape]

This is a couple of days old, but definitely worthy of a post in case someone's missed it - Okkervil River have released a new mixtape called Golden Opportunities 2 as a follow-up to the first Golden Opportunities-mixtape which was released in 2007. The mixtape contain five tracks, all covers, and it was recorded at Premium Recording in Austin, TX on November 3.

Listen: Icona Pop x Madonna - "Nights Like Bonita"

Here's something you didn't expect - me posting something about Madonna - but it's actually happening. Icona Pop have released one of the absolute strongest eps of the year in Nights Like This and now they've reworked the title track of the ep by mixing it with Madonn's 1987 hit "La Isla Bonita" into a new mix called "Nights Like Bonita" which The Line Of Best Fit premiered yesterday. Check out below, it's really good.

MP3: Niki & The Dove - "Mother Protect" (Glyph Remix)

A couple of weeks ago I posted Goldroom's remix of Niki & The Dove's "Mother Protect", taken from their excellent The Drummer ep, and earlier today This Is Fake DIY premiered a second remix of the track, this time a remix by Glyph. It's quite different compared to Goldroom's treatment, and while I prefer the Goldroom version this one is worth your time as well. Listen to and/or download it below.

Listen: Bleached - "Electric Chair"

Los Angeles garage pop duo Bleached are releasing the 7" single for "Searching Through The Past" on Tuesday via Suicide Squeeze and the excellent single is backed by an equally good b-side, namely "Electric Chair". Listen to "Electric Chair" below, and head over here to watch their performance of "Searching Through The Past" on The Daily Habit from early November.

Listen: Karen O & Trent Reznor - "Immigrant Song" (Led Zeppelin cover)

It's long been known that Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross would be scoring David Fincher's The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo and earlier this year a trailer appeared that was soundtracked by a cover of Led Zeppelin's classic "Immigrant Song" with vocals by Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.

MP3: Sharon Van Etten - "Mike McDermott"

Last week I posted Sharon Van Etten's new single "Serpents" and it's now out digitally, and with it comes the non-album b-side "Mike McDermott". "Mike McDermott" doesn't quite sound like what you'd expect from Van Etten and it's not an indicator of what her upcoming album Tramp is going to sound like - but it's good. Listen to or download it below.

MP3: Woods - "Christmas Time Is Here"

Christmas is approaching and with it comes the Christmas music, and to celebrate the fact that it's December 1st today Woods have released a cover of Vince Guaraldi's "Christmas Time Is Here". The original track appeared on the A Charlie Brown Christmas soundtrack and you can listen to and download Woods' take on the track below.

The Stone Roses to play Hultsfred 2012

Last week the Hultsfred Festival announced The Cardigans performing Gran Turismo as the first act of the 2012 edition of the festival, and earlier this week The Cardigans were joined by Justice, Noah and the Whale and Future Islands, but the big announcement was left for today. The newly reunited and legendary The Stone Roses will be headlining the festival and it'll be their only gig in Sweden during 2012.

The band decided to make a video for the track as well and it premiered on The 405 yesterday and is available for you viewing pleasure below.

Watch: Cymbals Eat Guitars - "Keep Me Waiting"

Cymbals Eat Guitars' Lenses Alien was released earlier this fall and certainly impressed me as I without a doubt would rank if over their, already really good, 2009 debut Why There Are Mountains. The band has now released an Adam Kurland-directed video for one of the strongest tracks on the album; "Keep Me Waiting", and you can watch it below.

A couple of days ago The Ghosts released the video for their first single "Enough Time". You can watch it here below and it's a pretty good video in my opinion.

Live: The Babies + 120 Days at Hornstull Strand, Stockholm 2011.11.26

words + photos by Johan Alm

I only discovered The Babies a few weeks ago, so for those of you who like me haven’t been paying proper attention here’s a short bio of the band; Vivian Girls’ vocalist and guitarist Cassie Ramone started a band with Woods’ bassist Kevin Morby, who in The Babies share vocals and guitar with Ramone, and drummer Justin Sullivan of Bossy and former Bent Outta Shape bassist Nathanael Stark rounded out group. They released their self-titled debut lp in February this year, a fine mix of garage rock and lo-fi pop that sounds a lot like you’d expect when combining Woods and Vivian Girls, but I only discovered it recently, when this show was announced.
