Stockholm gig guide: June 11-June 17

Well, last week we ended up with no gig guide as there's really not that many gigs going on due to the Euro 2012 championship in football (soccer for your American readers), festival season (the Hultsfred festival is the coming weekend) and well, I'm sure there's some other reason as well. This week we've only got two proper gigs really; both on Thursday. Besides those there's DJ-sets from ceo and jj at Debaser Slussen on Saturday at Adventure Of's release party.

Thursday June 14: Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers + Jonathan Wilson at Globen
First of all; Tom Petty is far better than most of you think. Petty's been unfairly ignored and forgotten when lots of '70s singer-songwriters have been "indie-approved", he's better than most and you only need to listen to 1979's Damn The Torpedoes to realize that. Pure power pop masterpiece. It's Petty's first gig in Sweden for over twenty years and support throughout the tour comes from UK label Bella Union's Jonathan Wilson who released his excellent Gentle Spirit last year. Compulsory attendance for fans of '70s singer-songwriter, folk rock and americana. Fritz's Corner is hosting a pre- and after-party for the gig at Debaser Slussen's beer garden.

Thursday June 14: OFF! at Debaser Slussen
OFF! is something of a punk rock supergroup with members from Black Flag, Circle Jerks, Rocket From The Crypt, Hot Snakes etc. and last month they finally released their proper debut record, long awaited since the release of their debut EP in 2010. On Thursday they visit Debaser Slussen with Sacramento act Trash Talk as opener, all courtesy of the club Lost Sound.

[This is definitely not a complete list of gigs in Stockholm during this week. Just my personal recommendations from those that I know of. See something that should be there but isn't? Something for next week you think I might not know of? Send me an email at birdsneedfeet@gmail.com with "GIG RECOMMENDATION" as the subject (this goes for fans, bands, venues and gig promoters).]
