In March last year we posted Athens, Georgia folk act Futurebirds' cover of Chris Isaak's 1989 hit "Wicked Game" and here comes another cover of the same song, a slightly more garage-y and psychedelic one. This one's courtesy of Leamington Spa garage duo Coves, who released their great debut EP Cast No Shadow earlier this year via Cross Keys Records, which includes "No Ladder" that we posted in mid-July. There's some pretty glaring errors in the guitar melody work and changing the background vocal from "this world is ONLY gonna break your heart" to "this world is gonna break your heart" kinda ruins the cadence of the chorus.
Exlovers, Sia, Futurebirds, and Washed Out have all covered this too, I find their versions a little bit more faithful to the original while still having the original artist flavor.
