Former Lovvers frontman Shaun Hencher has been working on new material with his new band Virals and back in February Sexbeat released their debut 7", with their debut EP Coming Up With The Sun being released next week via Tough Love. Below we've got the title track from the EP, "Coming Up With The Sun", available; it's a wonderful little piece of power pop-punk. Definitely something for the summer.
The Swedish punk act Holograms released their excellent debut single "ABC City" earlier this year and on July 10 their self-titled debut record will be released via Captured Tracks. We've now got a taste from the record in the form of the synth-heavy "Chasing My Mind", which premiered yesterday. Give it a listen/grab an mp3 below.
White Birds self-released their excellent debut record When Women Played Drums earlier this year but it's finally seeing a physical release on July 10 via Grizzly Records. The release is an extremely limited one though as only 50 cassette copies will released, but they'll include some extras as well - perhaps most importantly the new track "Waters", which premiered on My Old Kentucky Blog earlier today.
Back in January I did an interview with Howlin Rain's Ethan Miller where he mentioned that his pre-Howlin Rain band, Comets On Fire, would be acting as the band on the new Six Organs Of Admittance LP. Six Organs Of Admittance, the project of Ben Chasny - also a former Comets On Fire member - will be releasing its new record Ascent on August 21 via Drag City and a first track premiered yesterday.

If you've been reading this blog for awhile you might know that I contribute to Ja Ja Ja as well, and earlier today Ja Ja Ja premiered the first track from Paper Hearts' debut EP. Paper Hearts, aka Gustav Tranback, will release the On Top Of The World EP via Pepperbox Recordings on May 31 and the teaser track "Fly Away" certainly sounds promising. My friend Oskar at Ja Ja Ja compares it to Air France and he's not wrong.
Besides Icona Pop, Noonie Bao also guested the Musikguiden i P3 session last night. Noonie Bao, with backing band, performed four tracks - among those her next single. In the interview segment of the show she also revealed that her debut full-length will be released this fall. Listen to the full session below.
Last night Icona Pop did a live session for the Swedish radio show Musikguiden i P3 and I had the privilege to attend the session in person. Icona Pop, who flew in from London earlier the same day, turned in a great performance despite playing in front of 50-ish (my guess at least) seated people drinking coffee and eating cookies.
The duo played a several tracks from their debut EP, among those both "Nights Like This" and "Manners", as well as their new single "I Love It" - plus a few tracks I hadn't heard before. Just a brilliant live act. Can't wait to see them live in a proper venue again. Listen to the full session below.
I'm slow sometimes. Like in this case; I've seen Echo Lake mentioned for awhile now but I didn't get around to actually listening until today. I've been missing out. Echo Lake is a London duo who formed in 2010 and they're set to release their debut record Wild Peace via No Pain In Pop on June 25 in the UK and via Slumberland Records on June 26 in the US. They've just released the video for Wild Peace's lead single "Even The Blind", so go ahead and watch it below. It's great.
It's finally here! The first single from The Tallest Man On Earth's upcoming third full-length record There's No Leaving Now, out on June 11/12 via Dead Oceans. The single is called "1904" and it's definitely a new direction from the singer-songwriter; featuring both drums and bass, but it's just as good as we had hoped for.
Little over a month ago we got the first taste of The Henry Clay People's upcoming record 25 For the Rest of Our Lives in the form of the title track, and now we've got a second one in "Friends Are Forgiving", a more mellow track. Watch the visuals for the track below - they involve fish.
It's been awhile since we last checked in with Way Out West, but they've been busy ever since. Yesterday soul legend Bobby Womack and Best Coast, who just released a new album, were announced together with Here We Go Magic and earlier Odd Future, Jonathan Richman, Kindness, Mark Lanegan, Friends, Nicolas Jaar, Megafaun and Jacussi Boys have been confirmed - among others. Check out the full line-up below.
The excellent record label Dead Oceans unveiled a new video series last week titled '10,000 Takes', a session series showcasing the talents of the label's artists. First out are the Bowerbirds who released their great new record The Clearing earlier this year and they recorded a very good version of "This Year" for the series. Watch it below.
My personal highlight of the past week, gigwise, was Ryan Adams and Jason Isbell at Waterfront on Friday, where both artists was at their very best. Hard to beat. The coming week certainly got a few very interesting gigs coming up, featuring both great Swedish artists and indie greats from North America. Check it out below.
