Listen: Marika Hackman - "You Come Down" / "Mountain Spines"

Marika Hackman is a London singer-songwriter in the folk vein, quite reminiscent of Laura Marling (oh comparing one female British singer-songwriter to another, how clever!) in the sense that they're both working in the darker and austere parts of folk music. In many ways it's also closer to American indie folk than many of her UK contemporaries.

Hackman is releasing her debut single, the double A-side "You Come Down" / "Mountain Spines" on September 3 via Transgressive imprint paradYse and it's produced by BNF favourite Johnny Flynn and his band member Adam Beach. You can listen to both tracks below, and remember the name as you'll no doubt hear more from Marika Hackman.

Listen: Bong Idle - "Umbongo"

Stoke-on-Trent's Bong Idle was only formed in April this year but they've already got their debut EP Night Of The Living Blunt up on their Soundcloud. Musically it's lo-fi garage psych or perhaps noise pop - feel free to use whatever more or less meaningless description you want, what's more important is the fact that it's very good. My personal favourite from the three-track EP is the closer "Umbongo", which you can stream below.
